Burning Up the Streets
Activate has partnered with the Martinsville EMS and Fire Department to add biking as part of the emergency personnel's required daily exercise regimen. Activate's Bike Basics course went mobile as Activate staff used the facilities at the fire station. Close to 30 firefighters and EMS workers learned the 2x2x2 rule for helmet fittings, how to size bikes and rules of the road.
Close to a dozen bikes are now on the streets daily as firefighters help Activate to raise awareness about sharing the road. Additionally, each shift received different color helmets - so if you see a group of cyclists taking the streets in the early morning or late evening hours in blue helmets, that is B Shift burning up the streets!
