Donate To Your Community
Want to Make a Donation?
We have learned that transforming a community is a lot of work and it costs money. We gladly accept donations to help sustain our initiative as we work toward making Martinsville and Henry County a more walkable/bikeable friendly community. We also accept donations of bicycles for our programs.
Re-Cycle: Donate a Bike
Donated bicycles form the foundation of our bicycling programs. Our volunteer mechanics refurbish the bicycles and direct them to our bike safety programs for low-income youth and adults. We believe that the bicycle is a tool for empowerment and a vehicle for change. That’s why we work to broaden access to bicycling and all of its benefits. When people ride bicycles, they become healthier as does our community. When you donate a bike you help make our community healthier. All donations are tax-deductible to the extent of the law.
What Kinds of Bikes Do We Need?
We love all bicycles, but we need bikes in reasonably good condition.
For our youth programs, we need children’s bicycles that have 20” – 24” frames. For our adult programs, we need geared bicycles that have 42cm frames or larger.
How Do I Donate a Bike?
You can drop it off at 22 East Church Street, Suite 312, Martinsville, VA or call 276-403-5087 to make other arrangements.
What Happens To My Bike?
Activate needs bicycles, parts, and tools. We accept any style, shape, or condition bicycle. If you have a bicycle that is going unused then we need it.
We carefully evaluate every bike that is donated. The bike gets directed to where it is needed most, depending on program needs, recipients, and the bike’s general condition. Bikes in good condition are cleaned by volunteers and refurbished by our volunteer mechanics. Bikes in poor condition are dismantled; usable parts are salvaged. Unusable bikes and parts are recycled.
Checks should be made to the MHC Coalition for Health and Wellness and mailed to the attention of Activate.
